Gemini & Late Spring
Sun in Gemini: Late Spring
We are immersed in these energies at this time, and we revisit the themes below at the full moon in Gemini, during the Sagittarius solar month.
Curiosity
The Sun’s transit through Gemini marks a time of transition from spring to summer. At this point in the year, we have fully awoken from winter’s dream. Our minds are alive and curious, and there is much to be curious about - nature is active, exploding in color, life and movement. We want to explore every little bit of the world we encounter. We say, “YES,” to life, to people, to new things, and under normal circumstances, we are not so concerned - yet - with how it all fits together.
What are you curious about now?
How open are you to unforeseen twists in your path?
Ideas & Knowledge
When the sun transits through Gemini, it's time to learn and share - talk with people, attend or teach classes, read and create about what interests you, and give your mind some exercise. Gemini is the mutable sign that transitions us from the awakening whirl of spring into the more relaxed expansiveness of summer, so it inspires us to grab as many ingredients as possible to take with us into the next season. We can always let go of what doesn't fit once things take more definite shape in the coming months.
Bridges Between Worlds
Gemini rules the respiratory system. When the sun transits through the sign of the twins - one human brother and one divine brother - it's time to attend to our bridge between energy and matter, heaven and earth, inspiration and manifestation, one idea and another, one modality and another. Your breath is a bridge between your internal world and the world around you, between what you are and the infinite potential that surrounds you. This month, we exhale the past, and breathe in possibility.
What are you?
What potentials surround you?
How can you welcome those potentials into your being?
Herbs for the Gemini month:
For supporting your respiration -
Yerba Santa - gives flow to both the breath and the emotions.
Oregano - helps in letting go of desires to control situations: let go and let flow.
Gemini is also associated with the nerves:
Gotu Kola - gives a calm alertness that enables smoother flow of thought and action.
Holy Basil, a.k.a. tulsi - calms the nerves, and improves the body's use of oxygen.
Reishi mushroom - supports the lungs, adrenals, immune system, and nerves.
a Gemini practice:
In improv theater technique, there's a rule that actors need to internally say YES to whatever the other actors say or do, which keeps the improvisation flowing. Normally, as we move through life, we internally say YES to some things, and NO to others.
For a single day, try saying YES to everything you encounter - the things you like, the things you don't like, and the things you feel neutral towards. This doesn't mean not speaking up for yourself if someone is unfair to you. Rather, it means fully accepting what's happening, fully accepting how you feel about what's happening, and then responding - perhaps with some humor if you can manage it.
At the end of the day, review how your day went. What felt different? What did you learn?
